What is the meaning of life?
Has this question come to your mind? Have you ever tried to make sense of the world? Have you asked any of the questions: – What is life about? What is the ultimate purpose of our life? What is my purpose?
If you have – you have tried to find the meaning of life one way or another.
I spent a lot of time reflecting on this. I studied books, researched, and listened to speeches. I spent a lot of time reflecting on it.
What I landed on was disappointing. However, on further reflection, I realized it is liberating as well.
Why there has to be a meaning
If you research and investigate, you will realize that – there is no universal definition of “meaning of life”. You will also notice that the meaning given by an individual depends on the experience and understanding of the society, culture, or religion.
What is the meaning of life for the people who are dying of hunger or dying in war? What is the meaning of life for the father who lost his son? What is the meaning of life of millions of animals humans slaughter across the globe?
We humans try to make sense of everything. That is who we are. We always try to fit everything into the framework of what we know. This helps us to navigate through life. I think that is the reason we ask the question in the first place.
There is no intrinsic absolute meaning.
If you keep peeling all the layers – with millions of species being extinct and evolving – we are a speck in the cosmic journey.
It is the way it is. In the vastness of the continuum of life, there is no meaning.
We are all part of one continuous expression – ever-changing.
What is the “meaning of life? It is a meaningless question. This is the mind’s struggle to find the pattern and structure of the universe.
The real implication of the pointlessness of life.
It means you get to choose what meaning you want to give. It means you can define the purpose of your life. It means you can choose a perspective that helps you live for the purpose in all situations. The world will continue its course. You now have the right tools to navigate life.
This means there is nothing supernatural that will magically land you in a place where you wish to be. You have to work for it. This means that you are responsible for your life. Wherever you land with your purpose or without – you are the one accountable.
Conclusion
This universe has no meaning. We will die someday. Each and everything near and dear will eventually disappear. Suffering frustration and pain will come along the way. We came alone and will go alone. The universe promises that we can choose how our life’s journey will unfold.
